Our Process To Setting Up An Estate Sale
It is easy to get overwhelmed when setting up and preparing for an estate sale, especially in the beginning.
You go into one room with the intention of sorting and cleaning out drawers and closets. An hour later, you find yourself in the kitchen doing the same thing. Only to realize you never finished the first room and now there is stuff everywhere!
After a few trial and error projects, we decided to break up the process into small projects.
The first step in the process is to sort.
Sorting is a simple as it sounds. Take everything out and sort like with like. During this step we also separate items into a trash pile, a donate pile, and a keep pile.
Our goal in doing this before the sale begins is to make shopping a curated collection much more enjoyable for our customers; no one wants to rummage through years of broken junk.
The second step in the process is to display.
While I love the organizing part, this step is so much more creative and the light at the end of the tunnel seems to get brighter and brighter.
From the sort phase, we begin to marry together categories; things like candles and lamps, artwork and picture frames, home decor and holiday. We utilize tables and other display methods to showcase the items that we intend to sell.
The third step in the process is to price.
Furniture and larger items will likely have been priced during the presale phase. Everyday items will be priced βattractivelyβ while collectible items will be researched and priced accordingly.
If we stick to our proven process, then we can achieve the same result time and time again. While this isnβt a fast process, it is one that works.
