Biggest Misconception About Thrift Shopping
Perhaps the biggest misconception about thrift shopping is…
That it is junky and there’s zero worthwhile items to be found.
In fact, I thought this for a very long time! I assumed that all thrift stores were the same. And that would be junky, dirty, stinky, and a big waste of time.
Who in the world would want to spend their time sifting through a bunch of junk piled up on a shelf?
No one wants to do that actually, but the kicker is there’s loads of goodies to be found in thrift stores!
And estate sales. And yard sales.
While it does take time and patience to walk through a store, you can bet that something awesome is lurking on those racks or on those shelves.
There is a noticeable difference to how each thrift store is operated, but overall I would say most thrift stores are worth the effort.
Do they always turn up something you love and are so excited to buy? No, but when it happens more than it doesn’t, then I would say “stick with it!’!
I’ve found Burberry pants, sweaters, and coats at thrift stores.
I’ve found the prettiest skirts for church.
Purses and wallets that I resold on eBay.
Home decor that I absolutely love and cost pennies on the dollar if I had bought it brand new.
Are you on the fence about thrift shopping and estate sales?
If so, then pencil in a “Thrift Day”. Invite a friend or two and map out a day of thrift stores to shop along with an estate sale or two!
Then make up your mind if you think it is fun and worth the time, or junky and a waste.
From someone who loves to thrift stop after years of turning up my nose to it, I would encourage you to keep an open mind! You might be surprised.
