This Might Surprise You But Etsy Ads Are Worth It
After you open an Etsy store, you are automatically enrolled in their Etsy Offsite Ad program.
It’s a program that you can opt out of but I want to make a case for why you shouldn’t.
Their offsite ad program is designed to get more eyes on their website and your listings. Its much like any other paid ad program through Facebook, Instagram, etc. They set the parameters based on their customer data and then send listings far and wide that might meet the need of someone shopping in New York for a Ruffle Lace Fenton Compote Dish.
If that customer buys your item through the offsite ad link, then you make the sale (yay!) and Etsy takes a larger percentage thanks to their program working. I also appreciate that I only pay if an item sells, which is different than their Etsy Ad Program which you pay a daily rate to advertise your listings within their website.
I’ve had reselling friends get rather offended by Etsy’s larger cut. The way I see it is the better their website performs, the better I do.
The more eyes that are on my “shop” the more likely I am to sell my wares which is entirely the point.
I will gladly pay a little more for a program that works and that I didn’t have to design and implement.
