Top 3 Places To Thrift Holiday Decor

Holiday season is in full swing and I fully plan to decorate for Christmas this weekend!

We have a new (to-us) tree this year and I cannot wait to deck it out. I sourced the tree from an estate sale earlier in the year knowing full well I would not want to spend hundreds of dollars on a new tree come Thanksgiving.

Here are the top 3 places to thrift Christmas decorations - plus one bonus!

THRIFT STORES

Best for ribbon to deck out your tree, ornaments, tree skirts, and stockings.

I find the holiday decor rather boring at most thrift stores. Possibly because they don’t take holiday donations until a few weeks before Thanksgiving.

ESTATE SALES

Best for christmas trees, wreaths, ornaments, and everything in between.

This is the best place to upgrade your tree as most thrift stores don’t accept holiday decorations throughout the year. (read: you won’t be thrifting any christmas trees at the Goodwill in May)

If you like the style of a few ornaments and stockings, then you are likely to find several things in your style at a one-stop-shop estate sale.

ANTIQUE MALLS

Best for holiday china and glassware and collectible decor.

If you are looking for holiday china and glassware, then I highly recommend checking out your local antique mall. Most vendors will stockpile their Christmas decorations and have it all out a few weeks before Thanksgiving.

Vendors will have a much better selection of collectible holiday decorations than most thrift stores. Things like Fitz & Floyd platters, Spode Christmas dishes, and the like.

BONUS: FACEBOOK MARKETPLACE

Best for trees and outdoor decorations.

My sister-in-law has the most gorgeous flocked tree that she found on Facebook Marketplace a few years ago. She bought it in the middle of summer - smart girl. ;)

HOLIDAY INSPIRATION

I’m always looking for ideas on how to upgrade our tree or mantle. Pinterest is my favorite online filing cabinet to keep ideas organized and handy!
