One Helpful Tool When Reselling
Hint: it has to do with shipping
The reselling journey can be broken up into 3 parts:
Sourcing
Photographing & Listing
Packing & Shipping
Itβs that simple. Iβve mentioned over and over about protecting your gross margin when sourcing items to resell.
When photographing, I use my iPhone but I also have a Sony that has been very handy!
I recommend listing on multiple platforms to broaden your exposure, and lastly, I have written in length about shipping.
I fully believe that most people donβt take on reselling because of the cumbersome nature of photographing and listing, and the uncertainty in shipping.
If you stick with this one shipping tip, then almost all of your packages are guaranteed to arrive intact.
While you do need supplies such as boxes, packing paper, and shipping tape to execute an order, this ONE product is my most recommended tool to guide you along in shipping.
A FOOD SCALE
Very unlikely recommendation I realize. A food scale is essential when it comes to βguessingβ a packages weight when calculating shipping at the time of listing. But it is crucial when it comes to packing and actually shipping.
eBay and Etsy require that you enter the package dimensions and weight before purchasing a shipping label. I used to guess at the weight.
β¦β¦let that sink in.
I would hold the box in the hand and take a guess at how much it weighed.
Do not do this! :P
Buy yourself a trusty food scale and know the package weight in ounces, grams, or pounds within seconds!
It is also handy if you are selling precious metals as those are generally priced by ounce or gram weight.
I purchased my food scale from Walmart back in 2006 and it is still holding strong. I replace the battery roughly once a year and have never had a package come back because of miscalculation of weight.
