Duncan Phyfe: A Makeover Story
There are some furniture styles that I just love. For example, I love the design style of Duncan Phyfe. Sofas, pedestal tables, the like. Weβve sold our fair share of them over the years but one has a special story.
We were knee deep in projects that summer; on top of estate sales, I was also completing a large organizing project for our graphic designer. We had created zones within her one room, multiple staff office but needed a few things to complete the feel.
One of those things was a chair, or sofa, or something to greet (and hold) clients until the designer and her staff were ready to work with them at their respective desks. She saw the lines of a sofa in our estate sale and asked if I thought it would work in her space.
The quality was excellent but the upholstery was dated. We went back and forth and she decided to pull the trigger. We lined up pickup from the upholsterer and the rest is history!
I have an entire Pinterest board dedicated to inspiration and ideas for upholstered furniture.
Having a piece reupholstered is an investment but allow me to champion the notion.
You are buying quality at a fraction of the cost of new furniture. Some of which is not made near as well.
You are adding a custom piece to your home (or office). Again, at a fraction of the cost of hiring an interior designer.
You are supporting local business owners. Upholstery may be a dying a trade, but it is still a trade nonetheless. You support the upholsterer, the fabric store, and the company/store where you bought the piece.
You are saving the planet. Think about how little resources are used in buying something secondhand and having it upfitted for you and your family. Compared to buying something on Wayfair and having it ship from an overseas warehouse. The planet thanks you.
CURRENT INVENTORY
We have a Duncan Phyfe settee available for purchase. Smaller in scale than the traditional sofa, this would look amazing in a sitting room or at the foot of your bed.
The fabric is original and I love the blush pink detail!
