“Do I qualify for an estate sale?”

Most people underestimate the amount of items that they could sell during a downsize or closing the estate of a loved on.

As you walk around a home with items still in cupboards and closets, it can feel sparse and bare. But once you start to bring items out and sort “like with like” you would be amazed at how much is available to sell.

It’s synonymous to moving. You walk around thinking “I will only need 20 or so boxes for all of this stuff”, only to be met with the sober reality that those boxes fill up quick.

Let’s also take a look at the notion of an estate sale as most people think they only happen after someone has passed away or moved to an assisted living facility.

I recommend an estate sale to anyone who is downsizing. Why?

One reason is you cannot fit a 3,000 sq ft house into a 1,500 sq ft house. Something will have to go. Lots of somethings.

Another reason is selling off items on your own sounds good in theory until you realize managing Facebook Marketplace messages and coordinating payment and pickup is a full time job. And let’s not even talk about the folks that never show.

Buffer in an extra month and hire a liquidator to come in and handle the details for you. From the trash, to the donate, to the sale, find someone you trust and enjoy working with.

To circle back to the question of “do you qualify?”. You would be surprised at how an estate sale can ease the stress and burden of moving and downsizing, all the while saving you money (no need to move what you don’t want!), and possibly make you a return on top of the service provided.

Give us a call today if you would like to talk more about your upcoming downsize!
